- It is believed to be built between 1668 and 1669 C.E.
- It was commissioned by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in the memory of his first and chief wife Dilras Banu Begum
- Being a replica of Taj Mahal, it is called as Dakkhani Taj (Taj of the Southern India)
- It was designed and erected by architect Ata-ullah and engineer Hanspat Rai.
- The cost of construction was Rs. 668,203-7 (Rupees six lakh, sixty-eight thousand, two hundred three and seven annas)
